LOLLIPOP DAYS

This I believe is the best time in our lives, childhood. Our deepest concern only is how we’re going to finish our meal or what we’re going to play today. The simplest of things makes us laugh, and everybody wants to kiss or cuddle us. And so let’s try to be the kid that we were even just for a few minutes:

1. Ever favorite nursery rhyme: TWINKLE STAR
2. Pet name: “PUTI” and “JENIE POT-POT”
3. Favorite treat: ICECREAM AT THE MAGNOLIA HOUSE
4. Milk in your bottle/Sippy cup you miss most: BIRCH TREE
5. Favorite TV show: SESAME STREET
6. Place you love your parents take you the most: FIESTA CARNIVAL
7. Adult thing you used to mimick: DRESS-Ups & MAKE-Ups
8. Most embarrassing to recall: BEDWETTING AT A LATER AGE
9. Game with a sib you reminisce most: Jolens
10. Most unforgettable candy you used to take: JOJO

We can call this “chain blog” and I am here tagging few friends who might enjoy passing this along. Just copy and edit in accordance to your corresponding personal experience and preference. Hope you tag me along in your post. Have fun remembering your not so distant past=)

DO YOU HAVE A “SHY” CHILD?

Parents have to accept that there are really some that is borne to be shy, but remember also that not because someone is quiet it necessarily pertains to shyness. And we don’t really have to worry about it unless it’s becoming a problem at school and social interactions.

A point to consider…people (children included) doesn’t like to be reminded of their weaknesses, so do not rub salt into the wound! Instead, we praise them when they are overcoming that weakness. For instance, if your child is “unusually” socializing, compliment that fact. Encourage them to share with you what they feel in those different situations. Open circumstances for them to attempt socializations and involvement by letting them spend time with people they are comfortable to be with. Invite over some of her friends, or let your child be included in gatherings for this will help build self-esteem. We cannot solve it overnight, and so be patient with the developments. Do not overdo right away, instead start with a small group of acquaintance, 2 or 3, and slowly lead into larger ones. Stand by them and let them adjust knowing you are in full support.. Do not force them into a situation.
It is also a good idea to encourage them to try new activities and hobbies. This will give her more topics to talk about, plus a wider scope of social contact who have common interests as hers.

Bear in mind that YOU are their heroes; and that they will learn through you. It goes without saying then that you need to be of “the greatest example”. They will try what they see you do because they believe it to be harmless. They also pick up silent signals like nervousness perceiving it as something “bad”. Explain that you understand what she feels and that there will also come a time that she will experience being shy, nervous or scared…just as you did, and enlighten her of how you were able to overcome it. Make her understand that it is normal, that being shy is not a flaw to be ashamed of.
Most of the time, the child simply needs rationalization and encouragement.

NEVER ARGUE INFRONT OF YOUR CHILD

Arguing in front of your child, according to a child psychologist Lawrence Balter PhD, especially if about her causes anxiety in her. It is best that both parent talk about the issue away from the child. If at times that there is a need to discipline the child and one parent disagrees with the others’ decision, do not do so in front of the child so as to avoid favoring of one parent, or spoiling the child. Let the action be carried out and talk about the concern afterwards for future reference.

TIME-OUT FOR MOMS

If you feel like shrieking out, shutting your eyes, covering your ears..or simply banging your head on the wall…maybe it’s time to distress!

There really are times that we finally reached the point of wanting to suddenly give-up. The constant whining of your cranky kid, the indefinite piling of household chores as if it’ll never end mounting…deep-neck amount of responsibility seems to be closing-in on you.

just STOP everything at once. Turn off the television, unplug the telephones, leave the kitchen, the laundry and the house cleaning.

Put on a relaxing atmosphere by turning down the lights and putting on a soft music. Have a comfortable bonding time with your baby by telling her a story or reading her a book. Take a short nap with her, and you’ll be both refreshed upon waking up. Remember that we mommies should be the first to calm down so our babies will also be calmer, thus be more cooperative.

CONSTIPATION

Good friend Cathy have a 6month old baby, and is asking for advice regarding constipation. She chose the right person to ask…because I’ve gone through such a stage with my li’l Anya, to the point of her having anal tear and pooping trauma.

Milk formula is the very first possible culprit, thus have to be reassessed. Her baby Chiara used to be on breastfed, and the change has only been a month so it has to be looked into.

Her water intake should also be increased since there is a big possibility for dehydration during summer time.

Since the baby has been weaned to semi-solid foods, elimination of constipating foods shall be done. Most commonly, mothers give them scraped apples or lactan (banana variety), which are both highly constipating.

As what I’ve done with my kiddo before, her diet was made to be fiber rich, inclusive of oatmeal, jello’s, prunes or raisins, rice gruel, papaya and veggies. During her weaning stage, all the above mentioned were blenderized to appropriate consistencies. It also came to a point that I was giving her water with syrup to help with water absorption, and her feeds added with olive oil.

You can try these…but as for me, only one thing worked, I changed formula to PEDIASURE. That’s the best there is! After a few changes, I landed to this formula that solved the problem automatically! Everything changed with it. No more traumatic pooping times, now she’s even using her potty trainer… plus the fact that this formula is complete in itself. And up until now, she’s using this brand. Whatever weight she loses with sickness, she gains it back in 2days!

Magic!

PLANTING ACTIVITY

Kids, toddlers especially, want to always have a part of household chores, and in everything else. They wanted to be doing something adults does, want to be part of the routine. Like cleaning, food preparation,…even gardening. Since they are in the learning stage, everything new amazes them.

And so does a seed growing! I gave Anya some beans to grow. She loves the daily routine of watering it, especially the “responsibility” of this task given her. She was so excited when she saw, within two days, that it was starting to sprout out.

It’s astounding how her joy becomes my joy! How her eyes twinkled with delight…how she gave me her dimpled smile. Simply worth giving her the stars!!!

SHOKU

Let me introduce to you the twin brother of my baby Anya. This is SHOKU. He's been with her since her 2nd month of her life (a gift from gramma).

She plays with him, sleeps only if with him, sings with him, laugh with him, and she even tell him stories.
No matter how many other shoku's that comes anew, she loves no one better than her SHOKU =).

MORE EXCITED THAN MY KID

I'm canvassing a toddler bed for my li'l girl...and its making me more excited than her. Although I'm considering a tighter budget for the month, she just don't want to go back to her crib (she said so herself!) She prefers my bed, considering its size and that she's occupying 3/4's of the space and I on the remaining...I'd rather that she have her own. Plus the fact that it's causing me back pains whenever I try transfering her 30lb. sleeping form in her deep crib.

There's so much to choose from, but I'm eyeing for a Princess theme, Dora or the Elmo that she said she prefers. Well, that will depend on the availability. Hope we get it as soon as possible!

LIKE MOTHER, LIKE DAUGHTER

It is a wonderful sunny day, and we went to this resort not far from our place. It caters to anyone who wants to enjoy varied activities. Their available facilities are more than one expect with the inexpensiveness of their charges.

I love the place. So does my Anya. She especially love the playground, and the kiddie pool. We played in the pool for hours. Splashing around, going up and down the pool slide, and playing with her buckets. Afterwhich, she changed back to her dry clothes after a shower and played in the grounds with her yaya Josie. Then its mommy's turn to go swimming. A few lapse here and there. Freestyle, breast- stroke and back-stroke.

Both mother and daughter had a fun-filled day!

MY LI'L ANYA

A proud mother, that I am!

It was the 4th of October in 2005 when I gave birth to a 6.12oz. little bundle. Wrapped in a pink hospital blanket, there sleeps a baby bigger than all others beside her. The biggest face with two chubby pink cheeks. The nurses and visitors alike, both can't keep commenting on her "cherub-like" face.

Three years after, people are still fasinated with the thick curly lashes, button little nose, red pouty mouth that have even tiny white teeth and pink puffed cheeks. If before she have few hairs on her head that one can almost count...now, as was her choice, a long straight hair that have colorful ornaments that differs everyday.

She's not just all "beauty"...for she's also showing signs of being "brainy". Infact, she's a year ahead from other kids her age when it comes to knowledge and development. The alphabet, shapes, colors, numbers, animals are all too familiar to her at the age of two. Her wrting and drawing skills are also that of a kindergarden now.

Still, that's not the end of it. People around her seem to feel a pull towards her with her charm. She entertain a newcomer to ease them of unfamiliarity; she tells stories or sing to bored companions; and most often cuddles, hug and kiss her love ones with an uttered endearment like i love you mom, or "ang ganda mo" ("you're so beautiful" to show her appreciation of you), or "ang laki ng muscle mo" ("what big muscles you have") and the like. You don't see her in tantrums as well. Nor can you hear her cry unless she's in pain.

What can I say...she's a mother's dream come true. She's MY dream come true! =)

A WEEBIT OF A CHILD...

What a magical creation they are. They who were made possible by two people, a tiny entity that swims inside a dark sac for 9 long months, depends on its mother for a few more years and each time growing, and growing... and growing!Curious to the extent, a child would go lenghts to satisfy hundreds of questions that runs through its innocent mind. It is magnificent to witness them brave an unknown task. Be amazed at a disclosure of a discovery. Or just see for the first time a bubble coming out of a bubble ring, or of a spider jumping on the floor. Infact the simplicity of their desires and requests surprises an observer to the varied response of the recipient to those requests. Wonder never cease as to the ever changing development of a child...into the challenges of adulthood...and finally to the onset of the finality of life.A life that starts from a mere weebit of a child.

LITTLE GIRL IN ME

If only I can live to be three, I would for the simplicity of how my life would be. And yet, looking at it more closely,
my life is almost as it is when I was three.

Each day since then, I wake up thanking the heavens. If before it's for the milk, my playmates and my toys...now it's the food, my loved ones and the graces.
I used to play with my dolls dressing them up...still I do so to this doll I became.
Toy pots and pans turned to teflon, glass and potteries.
Games of hide and seeks and play groceries now to outings and shoppings.
It brightens my day to have playmates around me. Just as it does now with my peers, collegues and companions.
At the darker side of my mind I see shadows of childhood fears, insecurities, tears and pain...and when I looked up, I see the same reflected in the mirror. The same heartaches that breaks the spirit with worldly challenges and failures.
An instant longing for the past pamperings, promises, praises, smiles, cheers, caring, pats in the back, and catching me whenever I fall made me stop. Searching for something, someone...and there I found, the little girl in me. Revealed behind a lady standing tall though needing and wanting what I've always been given when I was three.
